What do you get when you mix the timeless stripes and style of Capri’s beach towns, and the eclectic colorfulness? The most colorful and unique wedding you have ever seen.
Let’s start with the fact that this wasn’t a usual wedding, because as they put in their words; it was a ‘vow party’, but not the usual ‘renewal’ one. Bianca and Oliver had been together for 15 years. They felt that a traditional wedding wouldn’t match their style, therefor they wanted something that feels like a little bit more formal than a normal party, but it still somehow less formal than a big wedding.
Also it was important to them to have an intimate celebration in the weekend home they were building and mending together for the past few years.
For the design –as per usual– Bianca was the one who had strong opinion, but nevertheless she gave the creative control to me. We have clicked in the very first meeting, where we established that she wanted to have, a very colorful and eclectic wedding, with a few reference to the Italian coast.
She wanted to have colorful table set up, and only Hydrangeas. She wanted to have lots of volume, and non-traditional elements.
Her Pinterest board pretty much summarized everything she wanted. But I started to dig a little bit deeper and check for those hidden references and typical items, that makes the décor reminiscent of Capri, but it doesn’t become gimmicky or the typical ‘we have seen it already too much time- Amalfi-type wedding decoration. Although we used the typical element; like the blue porcelain vases and limes, but intentionally stayed away from too much tile pattern and woven rattan baskets.
The inspiration for the custom-made tablecloths were beach umbrellas that you see everywhere at the beach clubs on Capri, we also added the well-known fringe border that these umbrellas have.
For a nice mix of patterns the napkins were similarly striped, but with wider and brighter blue stripes.
Mixing patterns always gives a more interesting appeal to any design. It’s well known that floral (natural) patterns go well with geometrical ones. Therefor lots of floral vases were added to the tablescape to make it eclectic, and to give it a touch elegance. In between the classic vases, some more exciting elements were included, like David statue-head candles, and sculptural lemon a piles.
As a personal touch the couple wanted to include potted Hydrangeas in the décor, that they decided to keep and plant in their garden. Which will remain as a beautiful reminder of this special day.
For the ceremony, we decided to keep it more toned down, also because Bianca decided to wear a colorful and bold dress by Temperley London, which we wanted to keep as a focal point for the ceremony.
The wedding arch was made of 200 stems of different shades of blue Hydrangeas, and the ceremony was organized around the swimming pool.
Each and every guest received wooden fans, that we decorated with different color tassels.
For the welcome décor we set up a little installation with a text ‘That’s Amore’ that also appeared previously on their invitation.
And the guests for the dinner received round menu cards, with different Italian words.
As the party only consisted of 30 people, the closest family and friends, the whole day was really easygoing. Family and friends were arriving while we did the decoration – remember it was held at their garden–, and they were happily greeting each other, and having a drink or two. It didn’t feel like they were on a formal event but rather this was an intimate family gathering.
